Why Netflix split up this Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2?

Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 hits Netflix this weekend, and the kids from Hawkins, Indiana are back just in time for the streaming giant.

It's been a terrible 2022 for Netflix. Its shares are down 70% this year. In April, the company announced that it had lost a customer for the first time in more than a decade.

The two premieres will take place in two different quarters for the company.

Stranger Things 4: Volume 1 released May 27, Netflix's second quarter, and Vol. 2” will be released on July 1, marking the start of the company's third chapter.

Fans of the hit series are unlikely to cancel their membership until they have watched the entire season.

new episodes straddling two different quarters around holiday weekends, the company has a better chance of retaining subscribers, which it needs to do to keep Wall Street happy.

Another non-monetary reason for the "Stranger Things" split: The show was huge this season.

With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots and a run time nearly twice the length of any previous season, 'Stranger Things 4' was the most challenging season yet.

the most rewarding one," the Duffer Brothers, the show's creators, wrote in a note in February. "Given the unprecedented length, and to get it to you as soon as possible, season 4 will be released in two volumes."

Stranger Things 4 - Vol. 1 is about nine hours long. The final two episodes that make up “Vol. 2” have runtimes befitting a feature film, with the eighth episode running at one hour 25 minutes and the ninth episode running at two hours and 30 minutes.

So there are business reasons and creative reasons to part ways. But there's another reason: it keeps the show on the public's mind.

They changed it a bit by splitting the 'Stranger Things' release in half," said Zach Sheik, vice president of programming at research-based media company Magid.
